Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Vault-Sync ("the Plugin"), an Obsidian plugin developed by c-ardinal. By installing or using the Plugin, you agree to these Terms.

Description of Service

Vault-Sync is a free, open-source plugin that synchronizes your Obsidian vault files with cloud storage services. All sync operations occur directly between your local device and your cloud storage account. The Plugin provides an authentication proxy hosted on Cloudflare Pages solely for facilitating the OAuth login process; no vault data passes through this proxy.

The Plugin includes configurable conflict resolution strategies (smart-merge, force-local, force-remote, always-fork), optional end-to-end encryption, and background transfer for large files.

User Responsibilities

• Authentication: By default, the Plugin uses a developer-provided authentication proxy for OAuth login. Alternatively, you may configure your own Google Cloud Project with OAuth credentials (Client ID / Client Secret) or a custom authentication proxy.
• Data Backup: You are responsible for maintaining backups of your vault data. While the Plugin is designed for reliable synchronization, no software can guarantee zero data loss.
• E2EE Password Management: If you enable End-to-End Encryption, you are solely responsible for remembering your encryption password, backing up the vault-lock.vault file, and securely storing any generated recovery codes. While recovery codes allow password reset, if both the password and recovery code are lost, data will be permanently and irreversibly inaccessible.
• Credential Security: You must keep your OAuth Client Secret and E2EE password confidential. Do not share them with others.

Intellectual Property

Vault-Sync is released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute the Plugin in accordance with the license terms. The Plugin name and associated branding remain the property of the developer.

Third-Party Services

The Plugin integrates with third-party cloud storage services (currently Google Drive). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. The developer is not responsible for any changes, outages, or issues with third-party services.

The default authentication proxy is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Your use of this proxy is subject to Cloudflare's terms of service.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE PLUGIN IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. THE DEVELOPER MAKES NO WARRANTIES REGARDING THE RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR FITNESS OF THE PLUGIN FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE PLUGIN, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Data loss or corruption of vault files
• Synchronization conflicts or errors
• Loss of access to encrypted data due to forgotten passwords
• Unauthorized access resulting from credential compromise
• Service interruptions caused by third-party providers

Privacy

Your use of the Plugin is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how the Plugin handles your data.

Modifications

The developer reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be published on this page. Continued use of the Plugin after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
